Medieval and Renaissance Studies Minor
An examination of the history, religion, art, and literature of the medieval and Renaissance period, intended to foster a sympathetic understanding of an age very different from our own, as well as a better sense of the roots of the modern era.
Take at least three of the following courses, including courses in at least two different departments:
- Art 215: Medieval Art: Glorious Visions
- Art 225: Art of the Italian Renaissance
- Art 231: Art of the Northern Renaissance
- English 201: Studies in Early British Literature
- Prerequisite: Engish 200: Approaches to Literature or FS ENG 201
- English 212: Shakespeare
- Prerequisite: Engish 200: Approaches to Literature or FS ENG 201
- History 201: Europe in the Age of Popes and Princes, 476-1648
- History 226: History of Medieval and Early Modern England, 1066-1688
- INTDS 180: Topics in Medieval and Renaissance Studies
- Music 104: Music of the Renaissance
- Philosophy 230: Science in Its Cultural Setting
- Religious Studies 250: History of Christianity II: The Age of Faith
Take at least two of the following:
- Art 330: The Renaissance Woman
- Prerequisite: 200-level art history course or instructor’s permission
- English 311: Chaucer
- Prerequisite: Engish 200: Approaches to Literature or FS ENG 201, English 201 recommended]
- English 415: Topics in Literature of the Middle Ages
- Prerequisite: Engish 200: Approaches to Literature or FS ENG 201, one of English 201-204 [English 201 recommended]
- English 425: Topics in Renaissance Literature
- Prerequisite: Engish 200: Approaches to Literature or FS ENG 201, one of English 201-204)
- History 302: The Italian Renaissance
- Prerequisite: a lower-level History course
- History 304: The Age of the Reformation
- Prerequisite: a lower-level History course
Appropriate special courses may be included in the minor with the permission of the minor coordinator.
