Unusual Combinations: Crossfitter / Golfer / Scrabbler / Labradoodle Lover

Sarah Holt is an unusual combination. A native of Meadville, PA, she grew up across the street from the Allegheny College President’s house. She graduated from Penn State University, main campus (BS in Microbiology, minor in Business) with a goal of becoming a Pharmaceutical Sales Rep. Instead, she was hired by the Gallo Wine Company first in Long Island, NY then in California. Her desire to use her degree and go into teaching brought her back to PA. She worked full time as a Pharmacy Technician while she acquired her Pennsylvania teaching credentials from Edinboro University. In 2001, after teaching high school Biology for six years, Allegheny College lured her into the Admissions Office, and she’s roosted here ever since. “Admissions work is by far THE most refreshing, rewarding work I’ve ever done!”

Tips for Future Allegheny Students

  • After you unpack your things, race to the ACCEL office. Those folks are ready and waiting to help you make sense of your unusual combinations, and they’ll reveal even more of the wonderful possibilities that Allegheny offers.
  • Bring boots. Warm boots. And a sled, if this will fit in your car.
  • Get involved. Attend the Activities Fair the first week of classes and sign up for a few clubs. Now is a beautiful time to step outside your comfort zone and get involved in an array of new activities.
  • Leave your hamster at home. Come to my house if you need pet therapy.
  • The best friends you’ll ever meet are waiting for you here on campus!
