Allegheny continues to increase its national visibility and prominence. The admissions staff travels extensively throughout the fall and spring to connect with students nationally (and internationally); however, the staff cannot cover every desirable college fair program. Alumni can help. Most college fairs occur at local high schools or convention centers in your community. These programs offer high school students and families the opportunity to connect with a “face” from the College, encouraging the student to visit campus or apply for admission. The fairs are typically evening events, lasting 2-3 hours, during the fall and spring months—critical times during the college search process for high school students. The Office of Admissions provides a supply of College literature and training materials prior to the event.

The Admissions Office recognizes the individual strengths and passions of each prospective student and strives to personalize and customize each’s college search process. Throughout the year, it may be beneficial for alumni to connect with students through written communication as yet another means to share your own voice and Allegheny insight.

For example, our annual Gator Greetings Holiday Card project asks participating alumni to write 20-25 holiday cards to high school seniors in their local area who have shown a serious interest in attending Allegheny (all information is provided ahead of time). This project is a personal connection that shows both interest in the student and also allows the student to connect with yet another member of the Allegheny community.

Quote

“It was a way for me to stay connected to Allegheny. Also, it is important for prospective and current students to receive correspondence from alumni who live in their area. Being a member of VISA (Volunteers in Support of Admissions) allows alumni to connect with students in various ways – creates collaborative outreach efforts (i.e., cross-culturally, cross-regionally, etc.)” ~Pamela Jones ’82
