Miriam earned a BA in Art History (2000) and an MFA in Theatre Design (2004) from the University of Memphis. She has designed costumes for over 60 plays, musicals, and operas since 2001. Prior to her joining the production team at Allegheny College, she served as Costume Shop Supervisor at Rhodes College in Memphis, as well as Head Costume Designer at Opera in the Ozarks in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. During her time in Memphis, Miriam has been nominated five times for the Ostrander Theatre Award in Costume and Makeup design.
A person of eclectic interests, Miriam has taught at every level over the last eight years, ranging from preschool to college. Her post-secondary teaching work has occurred at three different Memphis area colleges and universities in her various fields of research, which not only included costume history and design, but also religious studies with a focus on Jewish thought and the Holocaust. In addition to teaching in a formal classroom setting, Miriam also served as a Zoo Educator at the Memphis Zoo and Aquarium for two years, where she taught animal-related matters to a range of ages. She is thrilled to be joining the team at Allegheny College.
