James Fadden, Director

Education: B.S.Ed., SUNY Fredonia  M.Ed., Gannon University Educause Institute – Management Program

James started at the College working with faculty of the social sciences in the summer of 2000. He became director of the User Services group in the summer of 2007.  In the Spring 2014 semester he became director of Information Technology Services (ITS).  As director he works with a talented team of technology professionals that evolves, fosters, and supports the technology enterprise of Allegheny College.  


Susan Fenton, Programmer/Analyst

Susan works primarily with the enterprise systems providing programming and technical expertise to effectively integrate the various systems of the College.  She lives in Meadville with her husband, and enjoy traveling to New York and Boston to visit their artist daughter and musician son.


Pete Gifford, Systems Manager

Pete monitors, maintains and patches the Colleague application and Unidata database. He and his wife have four children. He enjoys history, art and music including singing in a barbershop quartet.


Tim Healy, Technology Manager

Education: B.A., Florida Institute of Technology

Tim worked for many years as a PC technician before moving into his current role a Technology Manager. In his current role, he applies his experience and expertise making sure that desktop technology is deployed and working across campus. He provides leadership to the User Services staff for all issues regarding hardware troubleshooting and maintenance. Tim also serves as the liaison to various technology vendors and consults on a variety of hardware purchases.


Fernando Hernandez, Microsoft Windows System Administrator

Education: Erie Institute of Technology

Fernando applies his expertise with Microsoft Systems to keep the College’s authentication systems, group policy, printing services, and file storage running efficiently.  Fernando moved his family to Meadville after completing his commitment to the US Marine Corps.


Rick Holmgren, Vice President for Information and Assessment

Rick HolmgrenEducation: Ph.D., Northwestern University  Educause Frye Institute

Rick is head of the College’s Learning, Information, and Technology Services group, which includes the Library, Information Technology Services (ITS) and Institutional Research. He came to Allegheny in 1988 after earning his Ph.D. in mathematics from Northwestern University. A tenured member of the Department of Mathematics, Rick accepted an administrative position as Associate Dean of the College with primary responsibility for faculty development in 1999. As Associate Dean, he had a number of responsibilities, serving as Director of First-Year/Sophomore programs and advising, chairing the College’s accreditation review team, assisting with the College’s strategic planning efforts, and founding the College’s Learning Commons. In 2005 he attended the Frye Institute. He was appointed head of the Learning, Information, and Technology Services group shortly thereafter.


Tim Hunter, Director of Technical and Network Services

Tim plays a central role to the technology history of the College.  He served in many technical and leadership positions over his tenure.  Currently, his responsibilities focus on security, infrastructure design, disaster recovery, management of networking services, and general leadership within the organization.


Micheal Hurley, Head of Research and Instructional Support Services

Education: B.A., Edinboro University  University of New Orleans  M.L.I.S.,University of Pittsburgh Educause Institute – Management Program

Mike came to Allegheny to serve as an instructional technologist focusing on supporting the pedagogical needs of the faculty.   Much of his early responsibility focused on assisting faculty use Sakai effectively.  His role has evolved over his tenure to include the evaluation and support of other learning technologies and pedagogy.  In the Summer of 2013 he was selected to lead the newly created Research and Instructional Support Services group.  Mike lives in town with his family and is an avid musician.


Molly Mattis, Programmer

Education: B.S., Allegheny College

Molly recently joined the ITS team to meet programming and data integration needs of enterprise systems.  Her primary focus will be support of Ellucian Colleague and the integration of it with the best of breed systems used across large segments of our community.  Molly is a 2012 graduate of Allegheny College who majored in Computer Science.


Cindy May, Office Coordinator

Cindy uses her organization skills to keep the motley crew that is Information Technology Services (ITS) organized and on budget.  She provides administrative support to all members of the computing team and is central to technology purchasing.  Cindy lives in the area and enjoys spending time with her grandsons.


Helen McCullough, Instructional Technologist

Education: B.A., Allegheny College M.Ed. Edinboro University

Helen has an eclectic portfolio of experience and responsibilities at the College this allows her to serve many complementary functions.  Her experience teaching Women’s Studies courses, years of experience in Media Service, work with Learning Commons Technology Consultants, and knowledge of Copyright and IP make her uniquely qualified in her work as an instructional technologist.


Andrew McMillin, User Support Specialist

Education: B.A., Mercyhurst College

Andrew joined the College in October of 2008 as User Support Specialist. He is a graduate of Mercyhurst College where he earned a Bachelor of Arts by majoring in Business, Computers and Information Technology. Andrew’s main responsibilities include front-line user support, being the lead resource for software questions, assists the Technology Manager with computer configuration and testing, and supervises the student workforce.


Rich Metzger, Associate Director

Rich is focused on the internal processes of ITS and how information use on campus can be more efficient.  This is on top of his responsibilities supporting the data and ERP needs of key process of the college. Rich has a long tenure at Allegheny that he draws on to meet the challenges of using, protecting and administering data in this day and age.  He enjoys gardening, games of chance, and collecting all kinds of collections.


Jason Ramsey, Associate Director

Education: B.A., Allegheny College Educause Institute – Management Program

Jason is evolving his work from mostly working with Admissions and internal and external communications folks, web and media designers, writers, public relations to managing the diverse project portfolio of ITS.  He is perfect in this role as he believes that technology should always be about people first, he loves connect technology to needs that allows greater efficiency and evolution of process.  He has a wife and son and enjoy bicycling when it’s not raining or snowing, too hard.


Phil Reinhart, User Support Specialist and Resnet Administrator

Education: Electronic Institute, Harrisburg

Phil is a versital employee who has served the college in a variety of roles including computer technician and Help Desk manager. In the summer of 2007 he reinvented himself when he became responsible for the residence hall network (aka Gatornet). He provides frontline support, assists with the student work force, and is a vital member of the User Services team.


Chris Rick, Business Analyst

Education: Business Analysis Master Certification/ Villanova University

Chris brings expertise in process improvement, project management, and using information systems to the team.  She enjoys creating a technical environment that helps people do their jobs more efficiently .   Her personal interests include music, dance, theater, and working out.  She also has a strong interest in Meadville’s history,  with a special focus on the Huidekoper family and the Baldwin/Reynolds home.  She lives in Meadville and has three children.


Doug Tomer, Senior Systems Administrator

Education: B.S, Clarion University

Doug works behind the scenes administering the systems that are expected to “just work”. He uses his knowledge and expertise in consultation with the director of Technical and Network Services to make sure the systems that support the technology platforms are functioning, secure, and redundant.  The fact that few have ever seen him means he is doing his job well.  He is a man who lives in the shadows.


Doug Varee, User Support Specialist, Classroom Lead

Education: B.S., Edinboro University

Doug orginially joined the User Services group in the Fall of 2007 as a User Support Specialist and has worn many hats since then.  He now leads our efforts with classroom technology.  Doug comes to us from the K-12 sector with experience supporting technology at the district and Intermediate Unit levels.


David Wagner, System Administrator

Education: B.S., Allegheny College

David joined the User Services group when he returned to Allegheny as the System Administrator for the Computer Science program. David’s User Services responsibilities include managing network-based tools that support the desktops including our remote deployment system.


Bart Wineland, Manager TNS

On Staff Since: 1994

Bart works closely with the Director of TNS to manage the wireless network hardware and configuration.  He also shares his expertise in support and installation of presentation equipment used on campus.
