History and Purpose

The Band Camp for Adult Musicians has grown and evolved since its inception in 1989. Founded by John Fleming at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, it serves as a means to bring together adult percussion, woodwind, and brass performers who share a love of concert band music.

Now, more than twenty years after its inception, the Band Camp will enjoy its ninth summer at Allegheny College. Located in northwestern Pennsylvania, Allegheny’s picturesque campus is the perfect backdrop for a week of festive music-making. Founded nearly two centuries ago, Allegheny is among the country’s oldest and most distinguished colleges.

During the two week-long sessions of the camp, attendees will have the opportunity to read and perform both familiar and unfamiliar literature from the vast collection available to the concert band. Attendees will also be part of a community that focuses on the needs of the adult musician and be able to form friendships that will last for many years to come.
