“Not Your Run of the Mill Community”
Center for Economic and Environmental Development (CEED)

Allegheny College’s Center for Economic and Environmental Development engages students, faculty and the community in creating innovative approaches to environmental stewardship, environmental education and regional revitalization.

In her first year as a Davies Leader, Robyn is working closely with Amara Geffen, CEED Director. Robyn has been involved with the Mill Run Project, Meadville, PA: Not Your Run of the Mill Community. This project plan hopes to stimulate economic and community development in Meadville, a rustbelt community facing economic decline. The project focuses on rebuilding Meadville as a sustainable community committed to ecological, economic and social sustainability. Robyn has done stream analysis and GIS mapping of the Mill Run stream.

In the spring semester, Robyn will be helping to progress the revitalization and redevelopment of Shadybrook park, a local park in need of attention. Robyn will be part of developing plans for a running trail through the park, which will be used by the near by high school athletes, plans for a footbridge over wetland areas of the park and plans for murals designed by young students that will cover an existing shed, a storm water roof and unsightly outhouses a the park.

From Bangor, PA, Robyn is a senior at Allegheny College. She is majoring in Environmental Science and minoring in Allegheny’s VESA studies (Values, Ethics and Social Action). Robyn has been very involved in ACCEL opportunities. Including, Alternative Spring Break, an Experiential Learning Internship at Learn and Serve America in Washington, D.C., Bonner Leader at YWCA/Meadville Housing Authority, and a Study Abroad trip in Rajasthan, India.
