Sarah Powers ’09

Summer 2008 Davies Leader

“Revenue Research / Program and Event Organization”
Meadville Area Recreation Complex

The Meadville Area Recreation Complex includes a swimming complex, an ice arena, a skate park, tennis courts, a picnic area and much more. The M.A.R.C. hopes to gain a stronger connection with Allegheny College and make students aware of their facilities and programs.

Sarah Powers was the MARC’s Davies student for the summer of 2008. In the beginning of her summer work, Sarah made a cost analysis of the MARC’s concession stand. She evaluated ways in which the MARC could bring in more revenue, but keep prices low. Sarah then worked to build a stronger connection between Allegheny Students and the MARC. She sent out a survey and flyers to see what students might want from the MARC, such as transportation, student discounts and so on. Sarah also researched ways in which the MARC could be part of Allegheny College events. She made lots of great connections. Sarah helped in the events for Splash week for the MARC’s public program in August. She was also an important part of the planning of the MARC’s annual MARCaritaville event.

While at the MARC, Sarah learned more about the “quaint town of Meadville.” She felt that the experience allowed her to explore the town a little more and she became aware of what is involved in planning large events.

Sarah from Bexley, Ohio. She is going into her senior year at Allegheny in the Fall of 2008. She will graduate in May of 2009 after double majoring in International Studies and Spanish.
