Summer 2009 Davies Leader

“Offering Wellness Activities to Senior Citizens”
Active Aging, Inc.

Active Aging, Inc. is a non-profit agency in Crawford County that provides useful resources to senior citizens to promote a healthy and active lifestyle. Elise will take on many responsibilities at Active Aging, Inc. in order to keep the senior citizens active and enthusiastic. On many occasions Elise will have the opportunity to work directly with the seniors at the organization. She will also be working closely with director Pam Roberts.

As a Summer Davies Leader, Elise will help the staff and members of Active Aging, Inc. to prepare for their Summer picnic. She will continue past work of Davies Leaders and will continue to coordinate the Nintendo Wii program at the center. Elise will also assist in the preparation for “Through a Veteran’s Eye: A Salute event for Veteran’s Day. She will be working with the seniors to advocate for funding of important programs. Elise’s organization and writing skills will also be helpful as the organization takes on some mini grants for Arts and Humanities programs. Nintendo Wii bowling and golf tournaments, Octoberfest and other major events at Active Aging, Inc. are part of Elise’s project plan as a Summer Davies Leader.

Elise is from West Seneca, NY. She is a rising sophomore at Allegheny College and has already been involved in the Davies Program as a spring 2009 Leader at the Center for Economic and Environmental Development. She has volunteered at The Vines organic farm, participated in Market House events, and familiarized herself with the community she is now part of. Elise has also volunteered at Grounds For Change and the American Red Cross. Elise is very active in political movements and activities on campus, such as College Democrats and Allegheny for Obama.
