Joe Czerniak ’10

Summer 2009 Davies Leader

“Restructuring and Design of Grounds”
Tamarack Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center

Tamarack Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center specializes in the rescue, treatment and release of injured, orphaned and sick wildlife. Additionally, Tamarack provides public education programs and materials on the behavior, feeding habits, and natural habitats of many of Pennsylvania’s species of wildlife.

While at Tamarack Wildlife, Joe will implement many aesthetic and educations plans for the center. Joe will plant wild native plants or flowers that will attract wildlife to the area. He will accent these gardens with educational plaques. Joe will be responsible for creating handouts and brochures for the center and there are hopes for an outside display that will make these materials easily accessible to all visitors. Joe will need to be creative in finding way to fund these projects and implement them at a low cost to this not-for-profit organization.

While at Tamarack Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center, Joe will continue to support the relationship between the center and Allegheny College. He may invite students and friends to visit the site or volunteer for special events. Joe will continue to support and build upon the work done by previous Davies Leaders at Tamarack.

A rising senior at Allegheny College, Joe’s hometown is Lakewood, NY. Joe is majoring in Biology and minoring in Economics while at Allegheny. Joe is an Allegheny Presidential Merit Scholar and received the Joe Rushin Leadership Award in 2005. Joe is a Volunteer Firefighter for West Mead No.2 Volunteer Fire Department, West Mead No.2 Dept. 29 Volunteer Fire Department, and the Busti Volunteer Fire Department. He will continue to volunteer for the West Mead Volunteer Fire Department while being a Summer Davies Leader.
