“Re-Vamping the Playbill”
The Academy Theatre

“In December of 1885, Ernest P. Hempstead presented the Academy of Music to the people of Meadville.” Now called The Academy theatre and used for a variety of artistic events, this organization hopes to be recognized as a center for the performing arts in Northwest Pennsylvania. They hope to continue to develop artistic appreciation and serve the cultural, social and educational needs of an expanding audience. (www.meadvilleacademytheatre.com)

As a Summer Davies Leader, Katy will help The Academy Theatre with their marketing and promotional publications. The organization will have Katy be the primary organizer and designer of a Season Playbill. She will create the layout and will assist in writing articles for the 2009-2010 season at the Academy. She will help the organization to develop a professional and polished Playbill.

While taking on this large project in the summer, Katy will assist The Academy Theatre in their hopes to boost their profile as an entertainment venue for Allegheny College and its community. The Davies Leader will help to get the word out about the events taking place at The Academy Theatre in hopes of a large attendance by the Allegheny College community.

Katy is from Carnegie, PA. She is a rising senior at Allegheny College and is a double major in Neuroscience and Psychology. She is minoring in French and is part of the Psi Chi and Kappa Alpha Theta National Sorority. She has been an Allegheny Alden Scholar and a Doan Scholar. During the academic year, Katy is a teaching assistant of Physiological Psychology. Katy has participated in two alternative spring break trips, the Collegiate Leadership Conference. She is an Allegheny Ambassador, Peer Leader and was a Team Captain for Relay for Life. Katy has been involved in community service in many other ways in addition to her work as a Summer Davies Leader.
