Matt Barclay ’11

Summer 2009 Davies Leader

“Summer Outreach Program”
Meadville Family YMCA

The Meadville Family YMCA is a community service organization that puts positive principles into practice to build a “healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.” The YMCA has a youth and teen center upstairs, where local youth and teens can come for structured activities and access to play equipment, including air hockey, puzzles and games, play mats and a climbing wall.

Working with Hannah Fuller, Program Director, Matt will implement the YMCA’s Summer Outreach Program. He will organize daily games and crafts to implement at various city parks and recruit children to participate, offering support and a positive role model. Matt will also be part of the staff for the Youth and Teen Center. Matt will market these programs in the community and try to increase membership to the YMCA’s youth programs.

Matt hopes to develop his understanding of the relationship between service and leadership. He enjoys being a role model to children and the YMCA will be a great fit for his energetic and enthusiastic personality. He will have the opportunity to mentor a diverse group of 6-16 year olds.

Matt is a rising junior at Allegheny College and is double majoring in Managerial Economics and Communication Arts. He is part of the Allegheny Baseball team. Matt is from Erie, PA. Matt is an Allegheny College Trustee Scholar. He has been a volunteer for Community Pride: Harbor Creek High School Soccer Tournament, a volunteer umpire, and was appointed Student Athlete Advisory Committee Representative.
