Scholarships

Need-based and merit scholarships provide promising, talented young scholars with access to a life-changing Allegheny education. More than 96 percent of Allegheny students receive some form of financial aid from the College, and more than 70 percent qualify for need-based aid.

You may choose to support scholarship aid for Allegheny students in several ways.

Endowed Scholarship Funds

Gifts beginning at $50,000 (payable over up to five years)

Endowed scholarships provide a stable, perpetual source of financial aid for Allegheny students today and for generations to come. Five percent of the fund’s principal is used each year to support student scholarships, and the principal continues to grow over time. (For example, a $1,000,000 endowed scholarship generates $50,000 in financial aid for students each year.)

Only 12 percent of the College’s scholarship aid is currently funded through the endowment; the remainder comes directly from the operating budget. Increasing the number of endowed scholarships allows the College to redirect operating budget funds to support academic programs and the residential liberal arts experience.

The Allegheny Annual Fund Grant Program

Gifts beginning at $5,000

When you make an Annual Fund gift at the $5,000 level or above, you can elect to have a renewable Allegheny Annual Fund Grant named in your honor. Next academic year the College’s Office of Financial Aid will award this grant to a deserving student. On this student’s tuition bill, your scholarship grant will be listed as directly defraying the cost of his or her Allegheny education.

The student’s bill also will include a note with additional information about you. We are confident that the student will express his or her appreciation to you for your generous support. Your Annual Fund Grant will demonstrate to the next generation of Allegheny alumni the genuine importance and impact of giving back to their alma mater.
