— Pamela Sarkodee

When Pamela Sarkodee was a child, her mother sometimes took her along with her to the family import business. Growing up in this environment, Pamela was eager to learn more about how the business world worked.

A U.S. Information Centre representative recommended Allegheny College to Pamela. She felt its high academic ranking and unique liberal arts perspective offered the challenge she was looking for.

“Through the economics department and ACCEL, I had the chance to participate for a semester in the Economic Policy Program coordinated by American University,” says Pamela. “I landed an internship with American Express, where I interacted with representatives from the Economic Policy Institute, the Security and Exchange Commission, Commodity Futures Trading Commission, the CATO Institute, World Bank, International Monetary Fund, and a host of others.” A summer internship at Care Baron Agency in London adds to her growing resume.

Pamela minors in both English and psychology. She was pleased to find the English program explores women’s studies, history, philosophy and other disciplines. She added psychology after an internship supervisor suggested that it was invaluable in marketing ideas and opinions as a financial advisor.

A planner by nature, Pamela leaves nothing to chance. She’s busy making sure she acquires the necessary knowledge and experience to own her own thriving business someday.
