Great Britain
“Theatre in Britain”
Instructors: Jim Bulman & Beth Watkins
Description
An introduction to theatre and performance in Britain: styles, traditions, and cultural diversity. The Stratford-upon-Avon portion of the tour features plays by the Royal Shakespeare Company and visits to sites such as Shakespeare’s Birthplace. The London portion comprises a wider variety of plays, from classic to contemporary, performed at the National Theatre, at the Globe, on the West End, and on London’s experimental Fringe. The schedule includes daily lectures and discussion groups, occasional workshops with actors or voice coaches, and backstage tours. It also includes trips to Oxford, Bath, and Stonehenge, and allows ample time for students to experience London on their own – its ethnic neighborhoods, its museums and palaces, and historic sites such as Westminster Abbey and the Tower of London.
