Break Out Sessions:

1:30 – Breakout Sessions

Vukovich Rooms 111 – Collaborative Support for Effective Administrative Decisions

Allegheny’s administrative data and system support model has produced several strong partnerships between IT and administrative departments. We’ll explore how we’ve made partnership and collaboration work to produce effective and mutually beneficial results. The conversation will center around the support of the Ellucian Colleague SIS and Entrinsik’s Informer Web Dashboard/Reporting Tool in collaboration with Enrollment and Development.

Vukovich Room 202 – A Common Sense Approach to RFP’s

The term “RFP” is used universally but has vastly different meaning across institutions and vendors.  Hope College’s process strives to gather functional details, provide insight into each respondent’s corporate culture, and set the tone for the potential partnership.  Those in attendance will be encouraged to share their successes and challenges.  As a very conversational session, the presenter’s goal is that the collective wisdom of those in attendance will allow him to completely avoid any future procurement and vendor relationship headaches.

Vukovich Room 202 – Student Technology Assistant Program (STA)

Our goal was to develop a student employment program within Information Technology that provides exceptional educational and professional development opportunities for our students.  We set out to improve the level and quality of information technology support services at a lower cost while offering students the ability to develop a solid resume that visibly demonstrates how a student’s experience at Wooster ties theory to practice.  How did we do it?  We established position titles within each area of Information Technology: User Services (help desk), Instructional Technology and Media Services and created a tiered pay scale.  Our students serve as Tech TAs and assist faculty with technology projects in the classroom, they provide first tier support through the help desk, they staff and support our events on campus and serve as trainers for supported software.  We developed a self-guided training program using both online and hands-on training. And empowered our upper class students to train their student colleagues.

Vukovich Room 203 – Faculty Fellowship Program

The goals of the program are to increase the number of faculty taking advantage of Web 2.0 and other technologies in their teaching and scholarship, to familiarize faculty with tools and project types with which Instructional Technology can help, and to help faculty learn how to assess technology projects. Participants will also be expected to develop course units to be implemented in one of their Fall courses and to participate in continuing dialog throughout the Fall Semester, and share their work with their colleagues in a faculty development event, such as Teaching Matters, Research Matters, or a brown-bag session.
