I spent the Spring 2013 semester studying in Cork, Ireland. During my semester abroad I interned for Jerry Buttimer, a Teachta Dála of the Dáil Éireann which is the lower house of Ireland’s Oireachtas (Parliament). I served as Deputy Buttimer’s administrative and research assistant at his constituency office in Cork. My primary responsibility was conducting research and writing briefs to assist Deputy in preparing for meetings with constituents, advocacy groups, and for Dáil Éireann sessions. I also posted speeches and announcements to the Deputy’s website. I found this internship opportunity through the Certificate in Political Issues in Ireland program at University College Cork, in which I was enrolled for the term.
