ROLE TITLE:  Accountant

POSITION REPORTS TO:  Director of Finance

Summary of Position

This position will support the Division of Finance at Allegheny College and will report to the Director of Finance. This position will be responsible for various levels of tasks related to accounting and finance duties.   This position will apply general accepted accounting principles and procedures in working with accounting records and reports.  It will also assemble, reconcile, analyze data and transactions, and prepare statements and reports relating to assigned area of responsibility.

As the Accountant, you will:

  • Ensure complete and accurate financial data by reviewing and reconciliation of general ledger accounts.
    – Prepare monthly general miscellaneous journal entries and adjustments.
    – Reconcile and record employee credit cards to submitted receipts.
    – Reconcile and report gift recording by general ledger account.
    – Reconcile payroll bank account.
    – Complete monthly and year end closing of the general ledger.
    – Assist in all areas of the audit process by providing statements and reconciliations.
  • Ensure complete and accurate Gift Annuity and Trust records by monthly, quarterly and annual reconciliations and schedules.
  • Maintain capital and real estate asset accounting and reporting:
    – Maintain Comprehensive Maintenance Plan reports.
    – Review and approve fixed assets journal entries, reports, reconciling to the fixed asset software.
  • Perform accounting for government programs and taxes.
    – 1099NEC, 1099MISC, 1099R, and 1042 preparation.
    – Real estate taxes review.
  • Maintain physical and online contract files.
  • Assist in budgeting process.
    – Review and maintain monthly operational budget reports using Synoptix software.
    – Provide analytic support for project budgets.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred and 2+ of related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel in particular, with specifically strong spreadsheet skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal and math skills.
  • Must be organized and detail-oriented with strong time management skills.
  • Must be able to prioritize assigned projects.
  • Must be able to handle a wide variety of tasks and prepare various types of data analysis.
  • Must be customer-focused, forward thinking, and amenable to establishing strong working relationships with administrative and academic constituents

YOUR COMPENSATION

New hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role.

The expected minimum salary range for this position is $41,600 annually.
