Allegheny College, a small selective liberal arts college located in northwest Pennsylvania, invites applications for the position of Assistant Director of Residence Life. This is a full-time exempt administrative position reporting to the Associate Dean & Director of Residence Life. Approximately 1850 students live in eleven residence halls, three apartment complexes and a variety of houses that surround the campus. Allegheny’s residence life program is actively involved in student programming, education, orientation and retention.
As a member of the Division of Student Life, the Assistant Director is a student-centered professional who is responsible for cultivating a residential community that supports student’s academic, personal and professional success. The Assistant Director will work with a team of Residence Life professional and paraprofessional student staff to create an engaging residential experience. This includes community development, residential education and programming, staff recruitment and selection, supervision, mentoring and leadership development, participating in the on-call rotation, incident and crisis management, facilities and housekeeping, serving on College committees, and as a liaisons with other college offices, parents, families and student groups. This position is designed to support the College’s strategic priorities of inspiring and developing student leaders who are prepared to live and work in an increasingly diverse global community.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Master’s Degree in higher education administration, student personnel counseling, or related field. It is expected that the candidate will have 2-3 years of residence life and housing experience with a history of enthusiastically embracing the value and mission of liberal arts education. The candidate must also demonstrate a commitment to creating and supporting an inclusive, respectful and safe residential learning community. The candidate must also have strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
