Assistant Professor of Biology

Assistant Professor of Biology. The Allegheny College Biology Department invites applicants for a tenure-track position in molecular biology to begin August 2018. Candidates should have a Ph.D., a strong commitment to liberal arts education, and the ability to develop an active research program with undergraduates that focuses on fundamental problems in molecular biology. Candidates with interests in gene regulation (including epigenetic modifications, chromatin structure, protein-DNA interactions, or RNA metabolism) or DNA damage and repair are especially encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to research utilizing non-mammalian model organisms (including animal tissue culture, microbial, or plant models). Teaching responsibilities will include an upper-level molecular biology course, contribution to the introductory biology sequence, a junior seminar in the candidate’s area of expertise, and college-wide seminars that emphasize writing and speaking. The faculty member is expected to advise senior research projects and involve students in their research. Dedicated research space and start-up funds are available. The successful candidate will provide evidence of excellence in teaching, ongoing scholarship, and professional development. Allegheny College and the Biology Department support interdisciplinary and interdepartmental teaching and research, community-based research, and service learning.
