Assistant Professor of Psychology, Allegheny College. The Psychology Department invites applications for a tenure-track appointment in Psychology beginning August, 2014. We seek candidates whose area of specialization focuses on diversity, social justice, and inequality. The successful candidate is expected to contribute courses to the department’s recently instated Power, Privilege, and Difference (PPD) requirement. PPD courses have as a central theme one or more of the following: a focus on the structural underpinnings of social injustice, examination of privilege systems as related to discrimination and oppression, and analysis of systemic marginalization based on race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, class, religion, etc., in the field of psychology and/or in society. Other teaching responsibilities will include courses such as Foundations of Psychology, Research Methods, Statistics, and advanced topics courses and seminars in the candidate’s area of interest. The teaching load is 6 courses per year and all faculty are expected to participate in delivering college-wide first-year/sophomore seminars that emphasize writing and speaking and to supervise the required Comprehensive Senior Research Project.
Minimum qualifications are a doctoral degree, experience teaching at the undergraduate level, and demonstrated interest in liberal arts education. The successful candidate will provide evidence of excellence in teaching, ongoing scholarship, and professional development. Opportunities exist for developing internships and collaborations with community agencies and for participation in a variety of interdisciplinary programs.
