Allegheny College, a small selective liberal arts college located in northwest Pennsylvania, invites applications for the position of Counselor/Therapist. As a member of the Division of Student Life, the Counselor/Therapist is a student-centered professional who provides counseling and mental health services for a diverse student population. Under the direction of the Director of Counseling and Personal Development Center, the Counselor/Therapist supports the campus-wide health and wellness education and prevention initiatives through counseling, psychoeducation, referral, support services, crisis intervention, including participating in regular on-call rotation after hours, and mental health consultation to students, faculty, staff, administration, and parents.
The Counselor/Therapist demonstrates an understanding of identity development models and awareness of life experiences and the cultural heritage of historically underrepresented populations including, African American, Asian American and Pacific Islander, Hispanic & Latino, Native American and Indigenous Peoples, as well as Multiracial, low-income, first-generation, women, Muslim, Jewish, International, and LGBTQ communities. The person provides counseling, crisis intervention, and consultation taking into account students racial and ethnic diversity, sexual orientation, spirituality, ability and any disabilities, class and socioeconomic status. This full-time, ten-month administrative position is designed to support the College’s strategic priorities of inspiring and developing student leaders who are prepared to live and work in an increasingly diverse global community.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Master’s Degree in Counseling, Social Work, Clinical or Counseling Psychology is required.
