Global Health Studies Tenure-Track Position

The interdisciplinary program in Global Health Studies at Allegheny College is accepting applications for a tenure-track position, rank open, beginning in August 2018. Candidates should have a PhD or terminal degree, a strong commitment to liberal arts education, and demonstrated experience in qualitative approaches to health. Preference will be given to candidates who use an interpretive or critical approach in their teaching and research. Global Health Studies at Allegheny College encompasses both domestic and international perspectives working from a range of disciplinary approaches that underscore the environmental and social determinants of health as well as the ethical and cultural dimensions of health and development. We support interdisciplinary and interdepartmental teaching and research, community-based research, and service learning.

Teaching responsibility is 5.5 – 6 course equivalencies per year, depending on Senior Project advising, and will include participation in the core Global Health Studies courses, college-wide seminars that emphasize writing and speaking, and upper-level courses in an area of specialty, such as health policy, public health education, health disparities, maternal and child health, health geography, and program planning/evaluation. Geographic area of specialization is open, but previous experience in international settings is particularly desirable. Candidate must demonstrate: (a) a commitment to undergraduate teaching; (b) an openness to involving students in research and programming, and (c) expertise in public health at the local and/or global scale. The successful candidate will provide evidence of excellence in undergraduate teaching, ongoing scholarship, and professional development. Excellent teaching and research facilities are available.
