The department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at Allegheny College invites applications for a one-year, visiting professor position in Islamic Thought and Culture with the ability to teach in some other area of the religions of Asia beginning August 2017. Disciplinary approach and geographic specialization are open, but the successful candidate must have broad intellectual and teaching interests in the study of religion, familiarity with the discipline of Religious Studies, and the ability to make their subject accessible to a broad audience of non-specialists. All faculty are expected to participate in delivering college-wide first-year/sophomore seminars.Teaching assignment is the standard faculty load of 6 courses (3/semester). Allegheny College is a highly selective private liberal arts college in NW Pennsylvania with an increasingly diverse student body and a dedicated faculty of teacher-scholars. Completion of PhD by September 2017 is expected.
