Mark has substantial enterprise level web development experience and is looking to bring that knowledge to the team with some of the newer enterprise systems we have and/or are looking into implementing here on campus. Mark as well as being a web developer has a passion and real interest in information assurance as demonstrated by his Graduate Certificate in Cybersecurity Best Practices and is really hoping to contribute to safer and better computing habits to keep the information used by the Allegheny College communities protected.

James Fadden, Director of Information Technology Services
Education: B.S.Ed., SUNY Fredonia M.Ed., Gannon University Educause Institute – Management Program, Leadership Program
As director he works with a talented team of technology professionals that evolves, fosters, and supports the technology enterprise of Allegheny College.
James started at the College working with faculty of the social sciences in the summer of 2000 and became director of the User Services group in 2007. In the Spring 2014, he became director of Information Technology Services (ITS).
He lives in Meadville with his family and enjoys the perks of working and living in small town NW Pa.
Nathan Fralick, Digital Resources Librarian
Education: B.A. Edinboro University, M.S.L.S. Clarion University
Nathan joined Allegheny in December 2016. His primary role is working with the institutional repository, capturing campus scholarship among faculty and students. He has exceptional skills using different information types and he monitors the library’s chat service most days. Nathan holds a Graduate Certificate in Business Analytics and Intelligence which provides him the training to extract, analyze, interpret and present data strategically to the end user.
Luke Fritz, Programmer/Analyst
Education: B.S., Toccoa Falls College
Luke started as a programmer for the College in the fall of 2016. He brings a great mix of hard and soft skills to our Enterprise Services team. He joins the team in offering solutions to the daily, technical challenges of our employees.
Luke loves a good challenge and enjoys creating simplicity. He looks forward to working with the College as we continue to document, streamline, and automate our complex data management processes.
Tim Healy, Technology Manager
Education: B.A., Florida Institute of Technology
Tim worked for many years as a PC technician before moving into his current role a Technology Manager. In his current role, he applies his experience and expertise making sure that desktop technology is deployed and working across campus. He provides leadership to the User Services staff for all issues regarding hardware troubleshooting and maintenance. Tim also serves as the liaison to various technology vendors and consults on a variety of hardware purchases.
Fernando Hernandez, Microsoft Windows System Administrator
Education: Erie Institute of Technology
Fernando applies his expertise with Microsoft Systems to keep the College’s authentication systems, group policy, printing services, and file storage running efficiently. Fernando moved his family to Meadville after completing his commitment to the US Marine Corps.
Rick Holmgren, Vice President for Information and Assessment
Education: Ph.D., Northwestern University Educause Frye Institute
Rick leads the College’s Learning, Information, and Technology Services division, which includes the Library, Information Technology Services (ITS) and Institutional Research. He came to Allegheny in 1988 after earning his Ph.D. in mathematics from Northwestern University. A tenured member of the Mathematics Department, Rick accepted an administrative position in 1999 as Associate Dean of the College with primary responsibility for faculty development. Since then, he has had a number of other administrative roles, serving as Director of First-Year/Sophomore programs and advising, chairing the College’s accreditation review team, assisting with the College’s strategic planning efforts, and founding the College’s Learning Commons. He was appointed head of the Learning, Information, and Technology Services division in 2006.
Tim Hunter, Director of Technical and Network Services
Tim plays a central role to the technology history of the College. He served in many technical and leadership positions over his tenure.
Marissa Kawinski, Programmer/Analyst
Education: B.S., Slippery Rock University
Marissa holds a Bachelor in Computer Science and has been working in the field of healthcare integration/interoperability since graduating college in the spring of 2015. She looks forward to bringing her programming and integration experience to Allegheny College. Outside of work, Marissa loves to kayak and golf (in the warmer months, of course). She also enjoys spending quality time with her family.
Brian D. Kern, Head of Resources and Metadata
Education: B.M., Grove City College, M.L.I.S., University of Pittsburgh
Brian supervises the Resources and Metadata team in the library. The Resources and Metadata team purchase materials for the library, keep record of licenses, analyze usage statistics for ebooks, ejournals and databases, manage the library’s budget, maintain the library’s website, and oversee all of the library’s print and electronic collections.

Cindy May, Office Coordinator
Cindy uses her organization skills to keep the motley crew that is Information Technology Services (ITS) organized and on budget. She provides administrative support to all members of the computing team and is central to technology purchasing. Cindy lives in the area and enjoys spending time with her grandsons.
Helen McCullough, Instructional Technologist
Education: B.A., Allegheny College M.Ed. Edinboro University
Helen has an eclectic portfolio of experience and responsibilities at the College this allows her to serve many complementary functions. Her experience teaching Women’s Studies courses, years of experience in Media Service, work with Learning Commons Technology Consultants, and knowledge of Copyright and IP make her uniquely qualified in her work as an instructional technologist.
Andrew McMillin, User Support Coordinator
Education: B.A., Mercyhurst College
Andrew joined the College in October of 2008 as User Support Specialist. He is a graduate of Mercyhurst College where he earned a Bachelor of Arts by majoring in Business, Computers and Information Technology. Andrew’s main responsibilities include front-line user support, being the lead resource for software questions, and assists the Technology Manager with computer configuration and testing.

Jason Ramsey, Associate Director of Information Technology Services (ITS)
Education: B.A., Allegheny College Educause Institute – Management Program
Jason is evolving his work from mostly working with Admissions and internal and external communications folks, web and media designers, writers, public relations to managing the diverse project portfolio of ITS. He is perfect in this role as he believes that technology should always be about people first, he loves connect technology to needs that allows greater efficiency and evolution of process. When he’s not working, he’s probably biking with his son or on some kind of excursion somewhere in the world.

Phil Reinhart, User Support Specialist and Resnet Administrator
Education: Electronic Institute, Harrisburg
Phil is a versatile employee who has served the college in a variety of roles including computer technician and Help Desk manager. In the summer of 2007 he reinvented himself when he became responsible for the residence hall network. He provides frontline support, assists with the student work force, and is a vital member of the User Services team.
Molly Smith, Programmer/Analyst
Education: B.S., Allegheny College
Molly joined the ITS team to meet programming and data integration needs of enterprise systems. Her primary focus will be support of Ellucian Colleague and the integration of it with the best of breed systems used across large segments of our community. Molly is a 2012 graduate of Allegheny College who majored in Computer Science.
Doug Tomer, Senior Systems Administrator
Education: B.S, Clarion University
Doug works behind the scenes administering the systems that are expected to “just work”. He uses his knowledge and expertise in consultation with the director of Technical and Network Services to make sure the systems that support the technology platforms are functioning, secure, and redundant. The fact that few have ever seen him means he is doing his job well. He is a man who lives in the shadows.
Doug Varee, User Support Specialist, Classroom Lead
Education: B.S., Edinboro University
Doug originally joined the User Services group in the Fall of 2007 as a User Support Specialist and has worn many hats since then. He now leads our efforts with classroom technology. Doug comes to us from the K-12 sector with experience supporting technology at the district and Intermediate Unit levels.
David Wagner, System Administrator
Education: B.S., Allegheny College
David joined the User Services group when he returned to Allegheny as the System Administrator for the Computer Science program. David’s User Services responsibilities include managing network-based tools that support the desktops including our remote deployment system.

Bart works closely with the Director of TNS to manage the wireless network hardware and configuration. He also shares his expertise in support and installation of presentation equipment used on campus.
