The Mathematics Department

Major and Minor Programs

Students receive an introduction to all the major areas of mathematics. After an introductory foundation is established, students tailor electives to their own interests and needs.

The department has also developed lists of recommended course selections and sequences for students interested in the following career areas:

  • Actuarial mathematics
  • Applied statistics
  • Computational and applied analysis
  • Operations research
  • Pure mathematics
  • Scientific computing
  • Secondary teaching

Student-designed and double majors are encouraged.
