Allegheny Instructor Steven Utz is looking for students interested in learning the skills of architectural documentation and the submittal process of architectural drawings to the National Park Service’s Historic American Buildings Survey. HABS has been at the forefront of historic preservation in American architectural heritage since 1933. Their mission is to increase awareness, knowledge, and appreciation of historic buildings throughout the United States while adding to a permanent collection of measured drawings at the Library of Congress.

Students working as a team under the guidance of Mr. Utz will learn how to document historic architecture on campus through measurements, hand drawings and computer-aided drafting. No experience is needed. Students will develop scaled drawings as a communication tool, transferable to many disciplines in visual and communication arts. Two academic credits are possible if registered as an internship through the Art Department. Weekly sessions will be held in Bentley Hall throughout the semester. Contact Steven Utz at sutz@allegheny.edu or 332-2725.
