Do you have what it takes? Starting June 6 to Aug. 8, you have been challenged to complete at least 100 miles of cardio for the summer. This challenge is open to all Allegheny faculty and staff, students, and Wise Center members. The average is 1.1 miles per day, starting June 6 and ending Aug. 8. You can definitely do this, and the Athletics Department is holding you accountable. Mileage logs will be located at the front desk of the Wise Center. You will need a front desk worker’s, or Coach Moore’s, initials each day to complete the process. The log will have the following sections: Your name, date, activity, staff initials, and total mileage for the day. Remember, they want you to complete at least 20 to 30 minutes of cardio each day, and that’s only 2% of your day!

What counts as mileage? Any cardio activity such as: jogging, running, biking, hiking, walking, and swimming. By definition, cardio means an exercise that elevates your heart rate and keeps it there for a sustained period of time. For example, basketball elevates your heart rate, but your heart rate fluctuates due to the start-and-stop nature of the sport.

HIIT workouts, sports, Zumba, dance, and cycling classes will count toward mileage. The conversions for these workouts are listed below:

20 – 30 minutes = 0.3 miles
31 – 45 minutes = 0.5 miles
>45 minutes = 0.7 miles
