UL continues its Hispanic Heritage Month celebration by bringing Tanya Cabrera to campus. With a passion for education, Cabrera creates access to higher education for all students within the community, in particular the immigrant and undocumented population. She is the associate director of minority outreach and undocumented student liaison at Illinois Institute of Technology. In 2012, she was appointed as a commissioner to raise funds for a private scholarship for undocumented students in Illinois (the Illinois Dream Fund Commission).

In a TEDxITT Talk in 2012, Cabrera shared the idea of the Dream Fund. The children of undocumented immigrants experience the constant fear of deportation and numerous psychological traumas. Cabrera will present this talk on Friday, October 21, at 4:30 p.m. in Campus Center Room 301/302 and will have a Q&A session afterward. Dinner will be served on a first come, first served basis. Contact the Unión Latinx club email, latina@allegheny.edu, with any questions.
