The IDEAS Center, Spiritual and Religious Life, Civic Engagement, and others on campus are partnering to present a wonderful series of events this week celebrating the life and legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The theme of the celebration is “Silence in the face of oppression betrays the soul and diminishes one’s spirit,” and a complete schedule for the week is available here.
The week’s public events include: a Q&A with Naim Edwards on Monday, January 16, at 11 a.m. in the Pelletier Collaboratory; a presentation of the film “Slavery by Another Name,” followed by a discussion, on Thursday, January 19, at 7 p.m. in Quigley Hall; a Shabbat celebration with Hillel on Friday, January 20, at 5 p.m. at the Jewish Community Center; Service Saturday on Saturday, January 21, from 8 a.m. to noon; and a service, hosted by the chapel congregation, on Sunday, January 22, at 11 a.m. in Ford Memorial Chapel with guest speaker John Christie-Searles, visiting assistant professor of political science and black studies.
