Global Water Benefit Concert at Diamond Park

MEADVILLE, Pa. – April 20, 2009 – Allegheny College students taking an environmental science course in global health transitions will host a concert in Diamond Park on Wednesday, April 29 from 6 to 10 p.m. to raise money for Global Water, an international non-profit humanitarian organization.

As part of the course’s requirements, the students evaluated more than 50 non-profit organizations. They selected Global Water as the organization most likely to make a worldwide impact with their money.

Global Water was founded in 1982 by former U.S. Ambassador John McDonald and Dr. Peter Bourne, a former White House special assistant to President Carter, to help save the lives of people in developing countries that are lost due to unclean water.

The organization holds that inadequate access to safe drinking water is the primary cause of hunger, disease and poverty throughout the world. For this reason, its efforts are focused on creating safe water supplies, sanitation facilities and related health programs for rural villagers in developing countries. Global Water offers permanent solutions to a region’s water needs by providing equipment to secure, purify, store and distribute new sources of water and by drilling new water wells to allow access to groundwater.

The concert is free, but donations are welcome. Checks can be made to Global Water. For more information, contact Julia Muntean at munteaj@allegheny.edu or visit www.globalwater.org.
