Art Galleries to Host Faculty and Alumni Exhibit

MEADVILLE, Pa. – Sept. 29, 2009 – The Art Galleries at Allegheny College will present a variety of works by Allegheny faculty and alumni at an exhibition opening with a reception and talks by the artists on Tuesday, Oct. 6 from 7 to 9 p.m.  The exhibition, which is free and open to the public, will continue through Sunday, Oct. 25. The gallery will be closed Oct. 10-13 for the college’s fall break.

The exhibition will feature works by New York City-based painter Rebecca Allan, a 1983 Allegheny graduate. She is head of education at the Bard Graduate Center for Studies in the Decorative Arts, Design and Culture. Her work encompasses landscape, figure and themes of music.

Allegheny faculty exhibiting their work include Amara Geffen, professor of art and director of the college’s Center for Economic and Environmental Development, who will present proposals for public art projects with Jeremy Hoople, a 2005 Allegheny graduate. Assistant Professor of Computer Science Matthew Jadud will present a kinetic work-in-progress, and Sarah Russel, costume designer for the communication arts and theatre department, will exhibit a costume made for a production of the musical “Anything Goes.”

The Art Galleries are located in Doane Hall of Art, east of North Main Street between College and John Streets. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday, 12:30-5 p.m.; Saturday, 1:30-5 p.m.; and Sunday, 2-4 p.m. The Art Galleries are wheelchair accessible.
