MEADVILLE, Pa. – Oct. 19, 2009 – Allegheny College environmental science professor Terrence Bensel will present the 14th Annual Pelletier Library Lecture, “Debating Climate Change: How a PR Campaign Is Dooming the Planet,” on Thursday, Oct. 29 at 4:30 p.m. in the library on the Allegheny campus. The lecture is free and open to the public.
Bensel will discuss how the debate over climate change in the media and Washington, D.C., is actually a series of different debates dealing with the science, economics and politics of this issue.
Chair of Allegheny’s environmental science department, Bensel has taught at the college since 1994. In 2001 he received a Fulbright scholarship to teach and conduct research at the University of San Carlos in the Philippines. He also has led several research projects involving certified sustainable forestry initiatives and forest education programs in northwestern Pennsylvania.
Bensel holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and environmental studies from the University of Northern Colorado as well as a master’s degree in economics and a doctorate in natural resources from the University of New Hampshire.
