Single Voice Reading Series To Present Poet Shara McCallum

Oct. 20, 2011 — The Single Voice Reading Series at Allegheny College will present its second author of the season at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 27, with poet Shara McCallum reading from her work. The presentation in the Tillotson Room of the Tippie Alumni Center is free and open to the public.

McCallum is the author of four books of poetry: “The Face of Water: New and Selected Poems,” “This Strange Land,” “Song of Thieves” and “The Water Between Us.” Her poems have appeared in journals, anthologies and textbooks in the United States, the United Kingdom, the Caribbean, Latin America and Israel.

The Academy of American Poets awarded her a college prize, and she has been nominated for several Pushcart Prizes.

Originally from Jamaica, she now directs the Stadler Center for Poetry and teaches at Bucknell University.

The Single Voice Reading Series, which is sponsored by the Creative Writing Program at Allegheny College, provides students and community members with an opportunity to hear and meet nationally known writers.
