Crawford County High School Bands To Perform at Allegheny College

Jan. 31, 2013 – Student musicians from the seven high schools in Crawford County will perform a free concert in Shafer Auditorium at Allegheny College at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2.

The concert is part of the 30th annual Allegheny College-Crawford County High School Band Festival on February 1 and 2. The festival will include 129 student musicians, selected by their directors, all working together under the direction of Lowell Hepler, professor of music and director of bands at Allegheny College.

The participating schools and their directors are: Cambridge Springs High School, Jeffrey Beltz; Cochranton High School, Carl Miller; Conneaut Area High School, Glenn Cameron; Maplewood High School, Jamie Gardner; Meadville High School, Jill Manning; Saegertown High School, Patrick Baldwin; and Titusville Area High School, Mario Steffanina.

The program for the concert will be chosen from a repertoire that includes “Simple Gifts,” arranged by Frank Ticheli; “Nevermore,” by Brian Balmages; “An American Spectacular,” arranged by Chris Sharp; “The Swarm,” by Robert W. Smith (Jamie Gardner, conductor); and the Washington Post March, by John Philip Sousa.

The festival, which allows a significant number of talented county musicians the opportunity to have a full band-festival experience, celebrates the cooperative aspects of music-making among all the county schools.
