Alumnus David Malone To Speak on Civic Responsibility in Education

Feb. 25, 2013 – David Malone, who chairs the board of directors of The Pittsburgh Promise, will speak on civic responsibility in education at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 28 in the Tillotson Room of the Tippie Alumni Center at Allegheny College.

The public is invited to this event in the college’s Year of Transforming Education, an exploration of the inequalities inherent in American education, the future of the U.S. public education system and the value of liberal arts education.

The Pittsburgh Promise works to leverage the development of Pittsburgh’s neighborhoods, promote the reform of Pittsburgh public schools and provide college scholarships to Pittsburgh’s students.

A graduate of Allegheny College, Malone is president and CEO of Gateway Financial, which he helped found in 1982. He was appointed by the Governor of Pennsylvania as chairman of the state’s Workforce Investment Board after serving for four years as chairman of the Three Rivers Workforce Investment Board for Pittsburgh and Allegheny County.

Malone’s talk at Allegheny is part of the “Passport Challenge,” which encourages participation at selected Year of Transforming Education events and enables participants to be eligible to win prizes.
