Allegheny Student Caitlyn Askey To Present Senior Voice Recital

Sept. 30, 2013 — Mezzo-soprano Caitlyn Askey, a senior at Allegheny College, will perform a recital on Sunday, October 6, at 3:15 p.m. in the college’s Ford Chapel. The public is invited to this free concert.

Askey will perform pieces in five languages. The program will begin with three songs from “Sea Pictures” by Edward Elgar and a lullaby from Samuel Barber’s opera “The Consul.” Askey’s French selection is from a set of 18th-century Bergerettes by Jean-Baptiste Weckerlin. She will end the first half of the program with “Das Veilchen” by Mozart, sung in German.

Askey will be joined by soprano Breana Gallagher to perform “Recordare” from the Verdi Requiem in Latin. Askey will also sing Sergei Rachmaninoff’s “To the Children” in an English translation. Cherubino’s aria “Voi che sapete,” from “The Marriage of Figaro,” sung in Italian, will conclude the program.

Ward Jamison will accompany Askey, who is a voice student of Vicki Jamison. A political science major with a minor in music, Askey is a member of the Allegheny College Choir, Chamber Choir and Chamber Singers.
