Author and Artist Linda Weintraub To Give Presentation on Artists as Conservationists

Oct. 7, 2013 — Curator, educator, artist and author Linda Weintraub will give a public presentation, “EnvironMentalities: Artists as Conservationists, Preservationists, Restorationists,” at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 16, in Room A104 of the Doane Hall of Art at Allegheny College.

Weintraub is the author of several popular books about contemporary art, including “In the Making: Creative Options for Contemporary Art” and, most recently, “To Life! Ecoart in Pursuit of a Sustainable Planet.”

“All environmentalists share a desire to ensure the long-term health of the Earth’s living systems,” Weintraub says. “However, there is no tablet etched with a definitive environmental code of behavior. There is no manual that outlines ideal environmental procedures. There is no guru to provide environmental wisdom. This lecture will present examples of the diverse approaches that artists are adopting in pursuit of environmental causes.”

While at Allegheny, Weintraub will also be meeting informally with students and other members of the campus community.
