Allegheny College Junior Breana Gallagher To Give Voice Recital

252501_2125710985266_7957781_n-2March 3, 2014 – Soprano Breana Gallagher, a junior at Allegheny College, will present a voice recital at 3:15 p.m. on Sunday, March 9 in the college’s Ford Chapel. She will perform works from the mid-17th century to the 20th century in five languages: English, French, German, Latin and Italian. The recital is free and open to the public.

Gallagher will be assisted by oboist Ally Weiner, a senior at Allegheny College, in “Quia respexit,” an aria from J. S. Bach’s “Magnificat.” She will also sing duets from Purcell’s “King Arthur” and Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” with baritone Nicholas Diana, who graduated from Allegheny College in 2013; Lauridsen’s “Dirait-on” with tenor Andrew Daigle, a sophomore; and “Recordare” from Verdi’s Requiem with mezzo soprano Caitlyn Askey, a senior.

In addition Gallagher will perform solos by Fauré and Brahms; an aria, “Saper Vorreste,” from “Un Ballo in Maschera” by Verdi; and the folk song “‘Tis the Last Rose of Summer” by John Stevenson.

Ward Jamison will accompany the recital on piano.

A native of Townville, Pa., Gallagher is pursuing a triple major in neuroscience, psychology and music. She studies voice under Vicki Jamison and is a member of the Allegheny College Choir, Chamber Choir, Chamber Singers, Opera Scenes, Wind Ensemble and Wind Symphony. She also performs as a vocalist for the Allegheny College Jazz Band.

Gallagher was featured as Schwartzy in the Allegheny Playshop Theatre production of “The Putnam County Spelling Bee” and as Sally Brown in the Student Experimental Theatre production of “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.”
