Allegheny College Junior Grant Richman Receives Critical Language Scholarship from U.S. Department of State

March 24, 2014 — Grant Richman, a junior at Allegheny College, has been selected for the Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program sponsored by the U.S. Department of State. The highly competitive scholarship will allow Richman to study Arabic in the Middle East this summer.

Richman, from Chatsworth, Calif., is a double major in political science and environmental science with a minor in Middle Eastern studies.

In addition to being a member of Pi Sigma Alpha, the political science honors society, he is vice president of Inter-Fraternity Council, a senator in Allegheny Student Government and an admissions tour guide.

Richman has also participated in an Experiential Learning tour to Israel, one of a number of international study opportunities offered at Allegheny College.

The CLS Program, part of a U.S. government effort to expand dramatically the number of Americans studying and mastering critical foreign languages, offers intensive summer language institutes in 13 critical foreign languages.
