Allegheny Graduate Returns to Campus to Give Talk on “How To Be a Feminist in the Workplace”

Patti_ProvanceSept. 23, 2014 – Patti Provance, a 1993 graduate of Allegheny College, will return to campus for an informal talk on “How To Be a Feminist in the Work Force.” The public is invited to the talk and a reception for Provance at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 29 in Schultz East Alcove on the Allegheny campus.

Provance is deputy director of the National Women’s Studies Association (NWSA), which promotes and supports the production and dissemination of knowledge about women and gender through teaching, learning, research and service in academic and other settings.

As a student at Allegheny, she designed a major in marginal perspectives and social change. While visiting campus on Sept. 29 she will be meeting with students both in class and informally to discuss the careers they can build with their majors.

Prior to joining the NWSA staff in 2009, she was deputy director of Girls Educational and Mentoring Services, which provides services and programming for sexually exploited girls in New York City.

She has also directed programming and training for girls, young women and adults who work with them at the YWCA-NYC Center for Girls and the Sarah Wells Girl Scout Council.

Provance’s visit to campus is sponsored by the college’s Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies program and supported by the William Beazell Memorial Fund.
