Talk at Allegheny College Will Focus on “Understanding ISIS”

Sept. 24, 2014 – Two faculty members at Allegheny College will present a talk on “Understanding ISIS” at 12:20 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 1 in the Tillotson Room in the college’s Tippie Alumni Center. The talk is open to the public.

Professor Younus Mirza, a faculty member in the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies, will talk about how the religious rhetoric of ISIS’s leaders connects to its political project.

Professor Shanna Kirschner, who teaches in the Department of Political Science, will discuss the reasons for ISIS’s success thus far and the strategic implications of the group’s rise.
