Exhibit at Allegheny College Art Galleries To Showcase Faculty and Alumni Work

“Morning on Cherry Lane,” by Jeff Gola

Oct. 23, 2014 – The art galleries of Allegheny College will present the college’s annual faculty and alumni exhibit from Tuesday, Nov. 4 through Tuesday, Nov. 25. The artists will talk about their work at 7 p.m. on Nov. 4, with a reception following in the galleries from 8 to 9 p.m. Both the exhibit and the reception are free and open to the public.

Allegheny alumnus Jeff Gola, who specializes in egg tempera painting and also works in oil and watercolor, will exhibit. As a student, Gola spent his junior year in Temple University’s program in Rome, Italy. He has continued his art education with courses at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. His work has been included in juried competitions in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware.

The show will also feature selected works by the Department of Art’s 2014-2015 faculty and staff — Sue Buck, Heather Brand, Amara Geffen, Darren Lee Miller, Steve Prince, Byron Rich, Richard Schindler and Ian Thomas – as well as by Visiting Assistant Professor of Journalism in the Public Interest Cheryl Hatch and Professor of Communication Arts Mike Keeley.

The exhibition is supported in part by Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts (PPA), the regional arts funding partnership of the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency.

Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday, 12:30-5 p.m.; Saturday, 1:30-5 p.m.; and Sunday, 2-4 p.m. The galleries will be closed Nov. 26-30 for the college’s Thanksgiving break. Visitors are asked to call ahead to verify hours, since programs are subject to change. All events are free and open to the public.

The Art Galleries, which are wheelchair accessible, are located in Doane Hall of Art, east of North Main Street between College and John Streets in Meadville.
