Allegheny Scholarship for Women Seeks Applicants for 2015-16

Jan. 23, 2015 — The Allegheny College Association, in conjunction with Allegheny College, offers a limited number of scholarships for part-time enrollment at the college. The Nancy Sheridan ACA Scholarship provides an opportunity for women who have been out of the classroom for a number of years to continue their education.

Applications for the 2015-16 Scholarship are available at acascholar.allegheny.edu. The deadline for submission is March 11. An information session will be held on March 9 at 7 p.m. in Allegheny’s Schultz Hall, East Alcove.

The scholarship is available to women at least 25 years of age who are residents of Crawford County and who have completed high school or the equivalent but have less than two years of college. The fully paid scholarship covers a maximum of 12 credits of part-time enrollment for one year (two 14-week semesters), an allowance to cover course-related expenses, and a faculty advisor to help with course selection and provide support and guidance. Scholarship recipients have access to the same privileges as other students, including access to the library, athletic facilities, computing and parking.

Over the past 40 years, the scholarship program has received more than 400 applications, with about 120 women selected to participate in the program. The Allegheny College Association also offers a Returning Scholar Scholarship and oversees the Mary Loretta Walsh Scholarship, both of which include tuition and stipends permitting past scholarship recipients to return to Allegheny for a second or third year.
