Fiber Artist Louise Silk To Present “The Quilt Maker’s Voice”

Jan. 27, 2015 – Fiber artist Louise Silk will present a lunchtime slide talk titled “The Sound of a Needle: The Quilt Maker’s Voice” at 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 4 in Room 101 of Carnegie Hall on the Allegheny College campus. The presentation is open to the public, and participants are welcome to bring a brown bag lunch.

From traditional quilt patterns such as the Log Cabin with its story of hearth and home to elevating the spirit through innovative quilts such as those created by African-American women in the rural community of Gee’s Bend, Alabama, Silk will demonstrate the varied ability of quilts to voice stories, share views, engage social change and memorialize loved ones.

Over the past 30 years, Silk’s work has been included in the National Biennial Exhibition of Contemporary Quilts as well as many private corporate collections. In addition to commissions and exhibitions, she lectures and teaches.
