Allegheny College To Participate in Challenge to Benefit Public Radio

Oct. 16, 2015 – Allegheny College will participate in the 2015 Collegiate Challenge to benefit WQLN, northwest Pennsylvania’s public radio station, on Friday, October 23. WQLN will be broadcasting live from the Campus Center lobby from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Allegheny College alumni, students, faculty and staff will compete with their counterparts at Pitt Titusville, Edinboro, Mercyhurst, Gannon and Penn State Behrend to see who can raise the most money for public radio.

During the competition, callers can make their pledges and increase their school’s fundraising standing. Two trophies will be awarded: one for most money raised and the other for highest percentage increase over last year’s giving total. Last year the Allegheny College community raised $14,742 for public radio.

Representing Allegheny on air this year will be President James H. Mullen Jr. and Allegheny Student Government president Haley Riley; Allegheny alumnus Pete Scibetta; Professors Beth Watkins, Jim Bulman, Glenn Holland, Ron Stitt, and Lowell and Julie Hepler; Wendy Kedzierski, director of the college’s Creek Connections program; Autumn Vogel, coordinator for the Year of Meadville, a partnership between Allegheny and the local community; and Taylor Hinton, the college’s Wellness Program coordinator.

Students and other members of the Allegheny community will staff the phones.

Anyone interested in supporting Allegheny in the Collegiate Challenge should tune in to WQLN Radio on 91.3 FM on Friday or stop by the Campus Center lobby to see WQLN broadcast live. Pledges can also be made at www.wqln.org.
