Single Voice Reading Series Continues with Poets Brian Barker and Nicky Beer

Oct. 28, 2015 – The Single Voice Reading Series at Allegheny College continues its 2015-16 season at 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 5 with poets Brian Barker and Nicky Beer reading from their work. The presentation in the Tillotson Room of the Tippie Alumni Center is free and open to the public.

Brian Barker is the author of two books of poetry: “The Animal Gospels” and “The Black Ocean,” winner of the Crab Orchard Open Competition. His poems, reviews and interviews have appeared in Poetry, American Poetry Review, Kenyon Review Online, Indiana Review, Ploughshares, TriQuarterly, The Writer’s Chronicle, The Washington Post, The Cincinnati Review, Blackbird and Pleiades. He teaches at the University of Colorado Denver, where he is a poetry editor with the journal Copper Nickel.

Nicky Beer is the author of two books of poetry: “The Octopus Game” and “The Diminishing House,” winner of the 2010 Colorado Book Award for Poetry. Her awards include a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts, a Ruth Lilly Fellowship from the Poetry Foundation, a Mary Wood Fellowship from Washington College, a Discovery/The Nation Award and a Campbell Corner Prize. She is an assistant professor at the University of Colorado Denver, where she co-edits the journal Copper Nickel.
