Concert at Allegheny College to Feature French Horn Duo

Jan. 25, 2016 – French horn duo Rebecca Chambers and Sarah Schouten will present a free concert at 7 p.m. on Friday, January 29 in Ford Chapel at Allegheny College. Pianist Amber Shay Nicholson will accompany the duo.

Rebecca Chambers and Sarah Schouten have been performing together since they met at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in 2006. They have performed and presented at numerous workshops including the Southeast Horn Workshop, the Northeast Horn Workshop and the International Horn Symposium.

From 2010 to 2015, Chambers and Schouten performed together in the Ocala Symphony Orchestra, where Chambers continues to perform as principal horn. Both earned doctoral degrees from Florida State University, where they studied with Michelle Stebleton.

Amber Shay Nicholson earned her Bachelor of Music, Master of Music and Doctorate of Musical Arts degrees in piano performance from Eastman School of Music, where she studied extensively with Nelita True. During that time, Nicholson was named a Liberace Scholar and received support from the Liberace Foundation for the Performing and Creative Arts. She also studied with Elizabeth Etter and Alec Chien.

Nicholson has served on the piano faculties of both Slippery Rock University and the University of Southern Mississippi. She received a special prize at the 1997 Vladimir Horowitz International Piano Competition in Kiev, Ukraine, and won the 2001 Rachmaninoff Concerto No.3 Competition at Eastman School of Music.
