Schick Lecture by Dr. Carol Bakhos to Explore Abrahamic Traditions

March 21, 2016 — Carol Bakhos, professor of late antique Judaism and Jewish studies at UCLA, will give a talk at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 29 in the Tillotson Room of the Tippie Alumni Center at Allegheny College. Schick’s lecture, which is based on her book “The Family of Abraham: Jewish, Christian and Muslim Interpretations,” is free and open to the public.

Bakhos is also director of UCLA’s Center for the Study of Religion and chair of the university’s Study of Religion Interdisciplinary Program.

In addition to “The Family of Abraham,” Bakhos is the author of “Ishmael on the Border: Rabbinic Portrayals of the First Arab.” She has edited or co-edited the volumes “The Talmud in Its Iranian Context,” “Current Trends in the Study of Midrash” and “Judaism in Its Hellenistic Context.”

She was the recipient of a Mellon Grant to study Qur’anic scriptural interpretation at Princeton, where she was a Visiting Fellow in the Department of Near Eastern Studies.

Bakhos earned her Master of Theological Studies at Harvard University and her Ph.D. at the Jewish Theological Seminary.
