• Premiere of “A Town for Us: A Meadville Community-based Play,” 7 p.m.

A second showing of the community-based play will be held Sunday, May 1 at 2:30 p.m. at the Downtown Mall.

“The Year of Meadville really brought the community together,” said Autumn Vogel, Year of Meadville organizer. “It was a chance to move forward some of the great work that has been ongoing in Meadville, bring new ideas to the table, and celebrate where we are and where we’re going.”

“We’ve strengthened our sense of community, shared stories, built up our network of care, developed new young leaders, furthered efforts to strengthen our local food system, and spurred conversations and initiatives to bolster our local economy,” she added. “We brought residents, business owners, community leaders, elected officials, students, educators, farmers and producers, bankers and activists together as change-makers. We’ve witnessed some amazing things happening in our town. We’re excited to build what’s next.”

In addition to this being the final event for the Year of Meadville, the community celebration also serves as the public launch for Common Roots, a membership-based community organization that will carry on the work of the Year of Meadville.

These events, which are free and open to the public, are part of Allegheny College’s Year of Meadville programming, a partnership between the college and the community that is focused on building a sustainable and just future. For more information, visit allegheny.edu/yearof.
